The BMD Mandal has been running since 1994, when families from the three villages — scattered across British cities and mostly unaware of each other — started finding their way back together. Today it connects hundreds of families across the country.

Where We Are

Our families are spread across the UK, with the largest communities in:

Leicester · Tipton · Birmingham · Bradford · Manchester

Smaller groups live in Preston, London, and towns across the Midlands and the North.

Local Chapters

Each town runs its own local committee. That means most of what happens — smaller gatherings, festival celebrations, local sports — is organised by people living near you, not from a central office. The local committees work together with the main Mandal for national events.

Wherever you are in the UK, there is likely a group closer than you think.

What Happens

  • Navratri — Saturday celebrations with the music, dancing, and decorations of home.
  • Diwali functions — family events hosted by local chapters.
  • Cricket — the annual tournament, plus regular matches through the season.
  • Football and badminton — added over the years, open to all ages.
  • Beach trips and family days out — a chance for families to explore the country together rather than alone.
  • Group holidays — trips abroad organised for community families travelling together.
  • Local gatherings — smaller events hosted in homes and community halls throughout the year.

The Annual Sammelan

Once a year, the whole community comes together in one place — families travelling in from every city for a full day of food, music, performances, and the simple thing that started all of this: being in a room where nobody has to explain where they come from.

The Sammelan has run every year since the mid-1990s. It is the biggest date in the community calendar, and the one event where families who see each other rarely see each other properly.

Vidhyadan Trust

Formed in 2000 by UK community members who had themselves gone to school in the villages, the Vidhyadan Trust supports education back home — funding school needs in Mor, Bhagwa, and Delasa from the UK. Two decades on, it continues, run by a small group of families who decided that where they had ended up, they could do something for where they came from.
